The Welsh Assembly is planning to relocate the Department of Environment, Planning and Countryside from Cardiff to Aberystwyth. The returning civil servants will have a hand in administering the £1.3bn Convergence Fund – formerly Objective One funding – from the European Union to improve the infrastructure of West Wales and the Valleys. A contract has already been awarded for a contractor to build office accommodation for 700 civil servants.
The Assembly and Ceredigion County Council’s are currently working on a masterplan for Aberystwyth, the publication of which is awaited following a retail impact study.

Aberystwyth is a highly regarded University with 7500 students, ensuring it remains vibrant throughout the year.

With many other Welsh coast holiday resorts having experienced significant growth over the last 5 years, Aberystwth is expected to experience similar growth.
The town is not only a popular seaside destination but is unique in that the property market is underpinned by the student population, a factor that will be further enhanced by return of the civil servants.
